I think it is of course good to have a mission statement that aims to support good things in the world. However the crucial thing must be to "walk as you talk". Once the good statement has been set up it has to be the leading star throughout the organisation from top management to the shop floor. The example from Clarus Transphase Scientific is really enlightening

The interesting challenge is how to spread the knowledge well to the individuals.

I totally agree with the concept of having a mission statement that goes beyond just making money. We consider ourselves social entrepreneurs whose mission is to help people by using creativity to fill unmet needs that others might not find profitable enough to bother with. Most people need more money, more free time, more information, and more friends who can help them in time of need. Our program, THINK SMART LSN, is intended to help fill these needs. THINK stands for Thinking, Helping, Innovating, Networking, Knowing; SMART stands for Science & Mathematics Applied Research & Technology, and LSN stands for Life Support Network. We must all learn how to think more creatively and develop better people skills to survive in the 21st century. We also need to know more about science and technology, and in particular, about New Science topics that are currently considered as 'fringe' science by mainstream scientists. Finally, we all need to belong to a support group that can help us get information we need to solve a problem, and that can help us earn the money we need to solve those problems. Alone, there is little we can do. Together, there is little we cannot do. By being go givers, we feel that we will do better in the end than if we were go getters, or worse, go takers, like so many businesses seem to be these days.
